Fresh off the Marathon....

Aaaaand we're back! Hours removed from ESPN's twenty four hours of continuous basketball coverage it is time to begin anew at Power 16. This season should bring plenty of intrigue, and I think we are all looking more forward to hearing about Drury's wedding plans than his actual posts. Anyways, just in time for Feast Week here is Week 1.

The Best Time of the Year!

Well, the bracket has been released and so now it falls to us to dissect it. For most of the top teams, Championship Week did not end the way that they hope their seasons will be remembered, but now everyone starts over again. Some very interesting draws set up by the committee, and even in a relatively soft year, this should provide for a great three weeks.

A Week for Champions

Although it has already started in some pockets of the country, Championship Week is about to set our worlds on fire. The Big East starts today with their week long festivities, and today's 9-16 games include UConn, Pittsburgh, and Villanova which is telling of the Twilight Zone-ish year that the Big East is having (USF has a bye?!). Congrats to those who have already punched their way into the Dance.

That Davidson-Western Carolina finish was amazing last night, not much detracts me from a Gonzaga-Saint Mary's game, but I was flipping back and forth.

Last Week of the Regular Season

With postseason basketball just one week away, we enter the best part of the year. This week we celebrate the accomplishments of senior and starting with this weekend we will get some idea of who will be in the field of 68. New Mexico is the latest to suffer the curse of the West Fairview Bloggers, and Ohio State is really showing their softer side. And of course, Florida stepped up for their big week this week by losing to Georgia. Probably single handedly saved Mark Fox's job, so Hartzell way to go.

Three Weeks...

So the NCAA had some reporters in for a mock bracket selection last week. CBSSports has some good commentary on it if any of you are curious. Does it bother anyone that UConn is still going to make the tournament despite going a likely 8-10 in conference? I have a feeling the players want to be in the 8/9 game on purpose. Looks like I cursed Memphis as much as Hartzell cursed Florida. Florida might have turned a corner though, they just destroyed the Razorbacks on the road by 30. How often does that happen in the SEC? Iowa had quite the performance but Indiana showed once again they can't play on the road. They better hope for a good draw.

Bracketbusters Week!

What a topsy-turvy week in the land of collegiate basketball. A crazy Saturday was the appropriate second act to Wednesday nights games and a fitting end to Rivalry Week. Now we turn our attention to the Bracket Busters event, unfortunately a week after Murray State ended their dream run. Now the Racers have an opportunity to upend Saint Mary's, who likewise needs a win after getting handled by Gonzaga last week. That rivalry has really blossomed in the last few years and has been enjoyable to watch. That will be the only thing that Dru gets credit for this week.

Mark it eight.

Rivalry Week

Jim Calhoun takes a leave of absence right before two showdowns with the Orange? Sounds a little coincidental to me. He should have retired after Kemba Walker took him to the promise land if you ask me, but thats cool. I am quite sure that Hartzell will feature Florida deep into his top ten (which is a mistake) but I am hoping that he will be ridiculed for this fairly.

Wednesday is a great day for hoops fans. Syracuse-Georgetown, Duke-UNC, and Kansas-Baylor? Wow. Also, the Big 12 race consisting of three teams got very deep this weekend with Missouri beating Kansas. For those not keeping count, Missouri has now beat both Kansas and Baylor. Pretty impressive when you consider they play all guards.

As the calendar turns from January to February, a reminder that the grandest 4 weeks in college sports are a little over a month away from now. And since lately no-one is safe in the AP top 10, it ought to be a wilder time than usual.

Never too early to start throwing out March Madness plans, I will be here in Winston-Salem having to work the games barring a complete Richie Tenenbaum-esque meltdown by the Gators that somehow doesn't have them doing dancing. But I would love to live vicariously through some of you if you're doing something tight.

If Syracuse is going to have a tough time against Notre Dame, then one has to doubt whether or not the frail Baye Moussa Keita can hang with Yancey Gates who is an established thug.

Florida State is the hottest team in America right now after taking down UNC and now Duke, which snapped quite the home winning streak.

Who do each of you have winning the Pac-12? It is apparent that only one team will qualify for the field of 68 after Cal's beating in Pullman on Saturday.
